The Gypsy Girl
by
nicholas ayoola oladehin

the gypsy girl in the coloured gown
looked like a Christmas tree
adorned with flashing lights
drawing attention at will

the gypsy girl in the coloured gown
she I met on a bus ride
heading to work on a usual day
as I jealously guarded my seat

the gypsy girl in the coloured gown
couldn’t keep her eyes off me
as she played on the little banjo
electrifying the ghost ride

the gypsy girl in the coloured gown
played from her heart
with a rare passion
with steady eyes focused on me

the gypsy girl in the coloured gown
reminded me of Mona Lisa
she was
indeed a living masterpiece of beauty

the gypsy girl in the coloured gown
took me to dreamland
hypnotising me at will
romancing my fragile heart

the gypsy girl in the coloured gown
led me to her lair
deep within the magical forest
far away past dreamland

the gypsy girl in the coloured gown
made my journey a mystery
made my trip adventurous
the best bus ride I ever had!!!

Last Night
by
nicholas ayoola oladehin

last night
i pondered on a million thoughts
wondering what was right
fiddling with words
hoping to act right

last night
i wandered through the icy night
caressing the cold
depending on inner warmth
wishing i was right

last night
i dreamt while half asleep
weighing my options
depending on the scales
believing all was right

last night
i wish i was thinking of you
as hard as i tired
your thoughts gradually fade away
leaving my mind as void
i hope this is right

last night
i wiped away all thoughts
of the horror and worry
of you tormenting me
i cant remember you again
i am sure this is right

Who he is
by
nicholas ayoola oladehin

he speaks through his words
drafted over a century ago
he laid down his principles
to be followed down to the letter
he made us out of clay
and carved eve out of me
he entrusted in our hands
the dominion of the whole wide world
he watched as we disobeyed him
by eating the fruit from Eden
yet he still sees us as his kids
he loves unconditionally
he gives in abundance
he protects completely
he cares with passion
that’s why indeed
he is God

FAR AWAY FROM HOME
by
nicholas ayoola oladehin

Slow tears drop down my cheeks,
As I roam about in loneliness.
The cold of the scary night next to my soul,
Filters through my hole filled rags.
Goose pimples adorn my once smooth skin,
I resemble a paper filled with glued sand.
I remember the village of my birth,
Where we sat by the oil-lit lamp,
Telling stories into the dead of the night.
Many were days in the flowing stream,
Enticing fishes with our worm decorated hooks.

Mother alone at the fireside,
Aged by the thought of my whereabouts.
My sisters around the big palm tree,
Waiting for me their only friend.
Juliet in a distant land,
Far away from my warm embrace.
In the moonlit night, lonely and quiet,
A sharp pain disturbs my inner being, hunger?
I then remember mother's meals,
Hot and steamy from the black clay pot
My mouth waters, it's time for dinner
My share, far away at home.

What indeed have I achieved,
From my long event-searching walk?
Bruises on my legs, arms and face
Worn-out shoes and a hole-ridden robe
The only things I can call my own.
Here is where I feel a slave,
Unlike home where I'm treated as king.
I hear the trees whistling in the silent night,
Welcoming the arrival of a cold rainy night.

The sharp cold in my tired bones,
Penetrates deep like a desperate virus.
The green frog happily hops about,
Here for it is home, unlike me.
All alone in this thick black night,
Where I sleep with my eyes open wide.
Even though I'm housed within a square mile,
In this habitat, indeed I'm no tenant.
Home yet miles away,
Where I'll rather be and not here.

Miss Jones!!!
by
nicholas ayoola oladehin
Between me and Miss Jones
We’ve got a thing going on
She sets me off my very feet
At the sight of her entrance
She smiles at me from a distant
And I could feel my heart melt
More like butter on toasted bread
Her steps are made in a rhythm
And I feel like am on a catwalk show
Her perfume takes my breathe away
The very best fragrance of Gucci
Her silent melodious voice
Sounds like no other
And reminds me always of Pavarotti
Her gentle and tender touch
Makes me think in 3-D
Her nicely cut shape
Indeed a perfect figure eight
Her natural morning look
Drops the Mona Lisa painting to second place
Her kiss is so unique
It leaves a tattoo on my cheeks
Her words and her thoughts
Reminds me only of Einstein
Her tender glowing skin
A reminder of a day-old kid
Her gentle embrace
Keeps me safe in a caged frame
And when she says hello
Lo and behold
She turns me into a different man.
Between me and Miss Jones
We’ve got a thing going on
And I give her roses everyday
Not only on valentines day.

PS: If you have a Miss Jones and you have a thing going on, give her a hug, a card, a gift, a ring, a treat, a kiss, a bouquet of flowers…..everyday, and not just on Valentines Day.

Who I am
by
nicholas ayoola oladehin
I was made in Britain
Born and bred
But lived my life through
Waving my green and white flag
Ace-ing my pace
Through thick and thin
I swam with the sharks and feasted with the eagles
And I marked my boundary
Where I alone was king
I’ve felt the bee sting
And the mosquitoes awful song
And I’ve dined and wined with my grandma
From the black clay pot
Am addicted to Africa
Home: Motherland
I’ve travelled through the forest
And swam through the sea
I’ve maintained my position
In the midst of great men
Am glad am black: am a born Naija

I SERVE A GOD AND NOT A DOG
by
nicholas ayoola oladehin
Am amazed at the awesomeness of the love that he gladly showered upon us as men. His plans for us as always has been for good and not evil because he had prepared and orchestrated the routes to a fulfilled end for us: as long as we followed his instructions, laws and daily enriched ourselves with his word (which luckily for us is free).
When he prepared for this exciting and important mission, his plan was to create a likeness of himself (more like needing a brother, a sister, a friend: someone and a people he could share thoughts with; a people that looked like him). He moulded us from clay into an image of his likeness, he filled our beings with the breathe of life and he called us ‘’MAN’’. He was a great scientist who understood the principles of the attraction of unlike terms and he therefore moulded out ‘’WOMAN’’ from the very rib of ‘’MAN’’.
He made adequate provisions for food, water and was responsible for the creation of life in all forms. After creation, the whole world to him was like a village and he placed us in the city of EDEN as a King and a Queen.
He gave us dominion over every single thing that he had created (as nothing was too big for him to give away) except the forbidden fruit (which he forbade us to eat).
Even when we disobeyed and were cast out of our original home to fend for ourselves, he still was always there waiting earnestly for us to call on him in our times of need.
He has given us a second chance of a kingdom where we can live forever (which was his original plan for Eden) but then it has only been prepared for the worthy (those that seek him and do his will). He is a supreme being, not an animal on a lead (that is controlled by men at will), He speaks and doesn’t bark, He loves his words and not the bone, He is not just mans best friend (a dog as most people say), He indeed is GOD and not DOG.
